PASO West Suburban Action Project

Background

PASO West Suburban Action Project is a social justice organization based in suburban Chicago, Illinois that engages a largely Spanish-speaking community on ways to address issues of poverty, displacement immigration and socioeconomic disparities within one ofthe state’s largest and fastest-growing ethnic groups: LatinX.

 

 

In 2019, the Board of Directors of PASO was looking for professional consulting help to position the organization for membership growth. OVP Management Consulting Group, Inc. was selected to assist PASO in creating a leadership transition map for the Board to approve, develop and executive a strategic reputation management campaign and lead the national search for a new executive director poised to lead the organization into the future. To address the organization’s concerns, OVP did a needs assessment, which consisted of individual interviews with all Board members, several interviews with the out-going Executive Director and a community survey to understand the expressed needs of the communities that were being served by PASO.

What We Did

  • Reputation Management Process

    Consistent of a PASO Communications Charter, a Phone Tree System that escalated urgent reputational concerns to a Board-level committee for response

  • Crisis Communication Plan

    Organize internal and external messaging processes.

  • Continuous Improvement Plan

    Introduced the use of executive scorecards, pre-specification document, countermeasure tools and automated process maps to system the organization’s approach to media, constituent, and community response on social media, press and community platforms.

 
 
 

Conclusion

In collaboration with the leadership of PASO West Suburban Action Project, OVP Management Consulting Group, Inc. was able to successfully hire the organizations new and current Executive Director, who has increased the amount of grant funding for the organization more than two-fold over the last three years. The systems that we introduced to address the reputation management problem were successfully implement to blunt consistent reputation damage associated with “negative press”. OVP recommendations also resulted in the creation of new standards for hiring and promotion within PASO ensuring a vibrant talent pipeline that will allow the organization to continue its work serving vulnerable communities.
